This workshop will show you how to improvise your ukulele performances and help with key songwriting principles.

A “blank canvas” can be intimidating for even the most experienced artist. Together we will explore writing activities and songwriting techniques that help drive people’s creativity.

Songwriting - Generating Creative Ideas

Level - All (focus on songwriting and composition)

1. Have you ever suffered from writer’s block?
2. Do you want to write songs but struggle with getting started?
3. Do you think everything that you write isn’t any good?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions then this workshop is for you. Songwriting, composition, performance, improvisation can all be boiled down to one thing… Generating Creative Ideas.

This is not a magical talent bestowed upon from the almighty, it is a skill that can be learned and perfected. This workshop is an introduction to techniques and exercises to get your creative cogs spinning and ideas coming out of your ears.

Ukulele Simon workshop 2:

Loop-e-lele - An instruction to looping 

Level - All (focus on using a loop pedal)

In this workshop, I will guide you through how to use a loop pedal with your ukulele. We’ll look at everything from basic looping techniques, Utilising every part of the ukulele to the fullest and how to arrange a song for a loop pedal. We’ll finish with a Q&A and get stuck into all things loopy.

For this workshop you will need:
• A ukulele that can be plugged in
• A loop pedal
• Cables for your equipment

Opera-lele workshop 1:

Join Opera-lele’s Opera Chorus

Level– suitable for beginners/intermediate.

You can join the opera chorus and sing onstage with Opera-lele! In this workshop we teach you to sing an opera chorus which you will then have the opportunity to perform on stage with Opera-lele. Ukuleles are required

Take a song and make it epic

A fast paced fun workshop from Andy Webster the enigmatic frontman of "Warehouse of Thieves" In which we will take a song and add multiple layers of ukes and vocals along with different styles of playing and in the usual Andy Webster style loads of tips and tricks that you can use in other songs

This is a whirlwind hour of high paced ukulele fun. Planting the seeds of ways to make songs more interesting, including 4ths and 6ths, harmony singing, ukulele choreography and much more.......brace yourselves, you're on for a wild fun ride!

Opera-lele workshop 2:

The Big Band with Opera-lele

Level– suitable for intermediate players.

With the help of George & Mandi from Opera-lele, we take a well-known piece of classical music and divide it into (up to) 5 different parts and discuss how to make an orchestrated arrangement of music to really make it your own! Knowledge of a few chords, willingness to fingerpick and a sense of adventure required! – tab reading is an advantage but not necessary.

“If you’ve heard other groups play and wish you knew how to add more interest to your performances, this could be the place for you! We’ll look at different ways to add greater depth to your arrangements and make them sound thicker and fancier! Bring your ukulele, a sense of humour and give it a go!"

Strumming makes or breaks a player.
We’ll learn how create your own strumming patterns as well as incorporate extra elements such as chucking and melody.

Level - Intermediate workshop for those confident with their strumming. The ability to play barre chords is essential for the maximum results of this workshop.

Musical Multitasking

An Introduction to Chord Melody- In this hour we look at the key concepts when playing our chords and melody simultaneously, such as where to place our melody, the way music messes with our mind, and chord inversions to help your ukulele sing.
We will look at how to play ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ and/or ‘Bad Moon Rising’ in a Chord-Melody style.
